A BIG month is upon here at KRUA as we prepare for the end of the current semester. Here are just a few of the things going on here at the station.
-KRUA sports went live to the Wells Fargo Sports complex on Monday December 4th for another broadcast of UAA Women's Basketball.
-Tune in on Christmas day as KRUA presents yet another tribute to the holidays all day December 25th!
-Preparations have begun for the celebration of KRUA's 15th Anniversary in February. Check back here and on the KRUA MySpace for more details as we have them.
-Pac-Man has announced this month that he will be leaving KRUA pending his graduation this Fall. Punk Buster will have a final show on Friday December 22nd. Check out his MySpace page link on the SHOWS page for more details.
-Finally a big thanks to everyone who made it to this month's volunteer meeting. A reminder that there will be no meeting in January due to the new semester. Thanks have a great month!

"Note Worthy", our Tuesday afternoon program, moved to a later time in the day. Now, catch it from 8-10PM. Also "Locals Only" celebrated its 100th show this past Saturday. The Pirate set sail with a large line-up of special guest including Parker Longbough, Jared Woods, J.R. (Adrenaline Therapy), and Pac-Man (Punk Buster). Be sure to call in on Sat. from 4-7PM to hear more Local Music.
<strike>Finally, this week there will be a mandatory meeting for all volunteers who wish to help out Shootout.net during the 2006 Great Alaska Shootout. The meeting will take place Friday Nov. 17th @ 5PM in the PSB room 158. (The TV Studio)</strike>
11-8-06- Volunteer Meeting Canceled
Due to conflicts in schedules here at the station we regret to inform our volunteers that this month's meeting has been pushed back to December. Also we are going back to having our meetings on the first Friday of the month. So on December 1st at 5pm KRUA will have its regular volunteer meeting. That is all!

KRUA's "Fly Paper Radio" will be having its final Saturday night broadcast this weekend before it makes its move to Thursday nights at 9pm to 11pm. If you are a dedicated listener be sure to take note of the time/day change. Starting Saturday the 30th following the UAA Women's Volleyball game "Urban Blend" will be making its first broadcast from its new time of 7pm-10pm.

8-31-06- KRUA Volunteer Meeting
Well everyone a new semester is now upon us and that means it's time for a KRUA volunteer meeting. However, things are a little different this year. All meetings have now been moved to the second Friday of each month. The meetings will still begin at 5PM in the same room here at the PSB on campus. All current volunteers and DJs please make a note of this change.
8-26-06- KRUA Having A Blast @ Kick-Off
The staff here at KRUA would like to thank all the volunteers and supporters who came to UAA Campus Kick-Off 2006. Though we did have a little bit of rain it didn't stop the flow of incoming and current students from taking advantage of free gifts and great food provided by campus clubs and organizations and community businesses.
Big thanks to Student Activities, Concert Board and everyone else who helped to make the event possible. Also we'd like to thank Prince Albert and the Fireweed Stampede and Jared Woods for providing us with musical entertainment. Be sure to check out some of the photos on the KRUA MySpace page.

On Saturday August 26th KRUA will be taking part in the annual UAA Campus Kick-Off event from 5-7PM. This year the station will be managing two separate stages with live musical performances. Currently "Sleep Machine" and "Prince Albert and the Fireweed Stampede" are heading up the main stage. With this event we will need volunteers to help out with setup. For several years KRUA has adopted a section of Lake Ottis between Tudor and Northern Lights, and every year we do our part to keep it looking nice and neat.

Since then she has become intimately and now professionally involved with this small East African country she considers to be her second home. Artic Winter Games 3/7-3/9 ; KRUA, Cellular One, and the UAA chapter of the Radio Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) will bring coverage of the 2006 Artic Winter Games. KRUA and RTNDA will cover slalom, giant slalom, and dual slalom on the skiing side and boardercross, giant slalom, and halfpipe on the snowboarding side.

1-11-05- Raining Jane Concert
Raining Jane opens the UAA Spring semester concert season on Friday, January 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Union Cafeteria. The band backs tight, three-part harmonies with a range of acoustic and electric instruments (cello, sitar, cajun, electric guitars and drums etc.) to create a sound influenced by funk, hip-hop, world music, folk and rock.
Matt Hopper, of the Roman Candles, will open the show.
Tickets for the general public are $15 . UAA students with a current UAA student ID can get them for only $5. Pick up your tickets at theStudent Union Building Information Desk. This show is presented by UAA Student Activities, UAA Concert Board, and KRUA.

Karen and Dave from Insurgent Radio (Sat. 4-7 p.m.) will be guests on Aaron Selbig's show on KUDO 1080 AM today at 5 p.m. Aaron was the original insurgent at KRUA. He did great things on-air for KRUA and continues to do great things at KUDO. Tune in to hear Karen and Dave push all things KRUA! Slackline on the Web ; In November 2005, Slackline (Wed. 7-10 p.m.) was asked to participate in the radiozerogravity.net project based out of Milan, Italy. The project provides a forum whereby listeners can hear prerecorded music of different DJ programs from around the world. Radiozergravity.net promotes avant-gard music which takes into consideration the legacy of traditional Jazz, Bossa nova and Cubop masterpieces leading to the grooves and rhythms of modern electronica. basketball. The Seawolves will be taking on Central Connecticut
at 6:00 p.m. at the Sullivan Arena during the 2005 Great Alaska
Shootout. Depending on the outcome, the Seawolves play Wednesday
the 23 rd at 2:30 p.m. if they lose or at 5 p.m. if they win.

KRUA has three live broadcasts scheduled today:
11:30 a.m. - Gooseberry (Flypaper Radio) will be talking with Charles Cross, author of the ground-breaking biographies "Room Full of Mirrors: A Biography of Jimi Hendrix," "Heavier than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain," and "Led Zeppelin: Heaven and Hell, An Illustrated History." Later tonight, the UAA Campus Bookstore and Student Activities will hold a presentation, Q & A, and book signing with Cross. That event will be in the Arts Building Rm. 150 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
6:00-6:45 p.m. - Pacman and The Man will be taking Grey Matter out of the studio and to the students! They will be talking about the upcoming USUAA student elections, covering candidates and referendums on this year's ballot. KRUA will be broadcasting the show live from the UAA Commons (3700 Sharon Gagnon Lane, near the esidence halls). We're giving all you UAA students another chance to catch some free, live music courtesy of KRUA and, this time, UAA Residence Life! DJ Encyclopedia Brown, Well Strung, and Jared Woods will be on-hand to fill your afternoon with a variety of joyous noise for your earhole. From 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, KRUA and Res. Life will be at the Sharon Gagnon Lane cul-de-sac near North Hall dishing out free hamburgers, hotdogs, tunes and various give-aways! See ya there.
8-20-05- KRUA Rocks the Quad '05
KRUA presents our very own Hawkins Wright (co-host of Locals Only, Mondays 7-10 p.m.) and Parker Longbough on the Lucy Hall Quad Lawn Saturday, August 27 from 7-8 p.m. The show is FREE to all UAA students, staff and faculty and is part of Campus Kick-Off 2005.
The show will open with the quirky, indie stylings of singer-songwriter Parker Longbow. Longbow also moonlights as the frontman for local band, Uncle Jesse. Hawkins Wright will top things off. Known for his soft yet varied delivery and adept musicianship, Wright is always a crowd pleaser. Don't be surprised if he brings along a couple of friends, as he rarely travels alone!

11-8-04- KRUA sent three representatives to this year's CMJ Music Marathon in New York City. The Marathon ran from Oct. 13th - 16th. An article covering the event ran in the Nov. 2 edition of The Northern Light (UAA's student-run, weekly newspaper). Go here to read that bitch!

07-16-04- Drew Heilprin of Blue-Eyed Son found his way into the KRUA studio for an engaging, laughter-filled interview and a couple of live acoustic songs on Edge Essenials. Blue-Eyed Son were one of two headliners for the second annual Alaska Oceans Festival, coming all the way from L.A. to help support the cause. 07-07-04- The Virginia hardcore band Forensics stopped by KRUA for an interview while on their Summer 2004 Tour (U.S./Canada/Alaska). The interview will air tonight on adrenaline therapy at 11 pm.
